Sean Adams (President of AIGA) Linda.com Talk

Sean Adams started out giving us a little background on his families political history, and how they expected him to enter in to the world of politics... However,  he had different intentions, and found himself being infatuated by type, design, & the world that revolved around it. He emphasized that writing everything down is essential, in which I feel is key as well because ideas can come to you at any moment, time or place & the chances of you forgetting that idea is greater if you don't take a second to jot it down.  I find myself making mental notes and forgetting to physically log an idea somewhere, next thing you know when time comes for you to bring that idea to life, only a portion of the thought is produced. When speaking on clients, & the ideas they have he suggested to do the "wrongest," scenario possible  which in a sense is genius because what could possibly go wrong from there.  Its kinda like starting from the other end of the spectru...

Saulk Institute Visitation On Spring Equinox

Upon entering the Saulk Institute we were greeting by a security guard initially, until 6:01pm and Max walked out to grab us.  As we entered through the courtyard he advised us that the buildings currently there were not part of the initial plan and that it was all trees, Torrey Pines I believe.   He gave us a brief history about how Jonah Saulk who founded the cure for polio and happened to be in contact with the mayor at that time of San Diego, who's son so happened to be a polio survivor around the same time as well.  The land was ultimately donated,  and he envisioned a place where the top scientists from around the world could come and act as a sort of "meeting of the minds." This day was exceptionally special because the spring equinox was happening and the sunset was going to be lined exactly with the "river of life," which is the canal in the center of the main courtyard.  A special set of cameras were set up (multiple) in unison and the sunset ...

A Visit & Q & A Session: Inside the Studio w/ RoN MiRiELL0

Upon entering the studio, was a warm greeting from the man himself...  Mr. Miriello.  After introducing myself was given a name tag and picked the comfiest seat in the house. He would refer back to the analogy of a heart surgeon, "back then," as is the same now, same process different tools through out our visit.  Referring to the new tools such as computer graphics, and the industry in general, as he made it clear that you're not gonna be making the big bucks, or doing your best work right outta college.  Also that it is a competitive field and that we would produce our best work later in life. Ron made it clear that he devotes his time choosing and working on projects he absolutely loves.  Clarifying that it took 30 years to reach this stage in his career, but also emphasized the fact that you "can't kill the young Ron," meaning hold on to your youth, as that is where the most creativity and style welcome from.  He also advised to spend all your time ...

Big Spaceship Design Studio Interviews w/ Owner's & Staff from Lynda.com⥥ Initially when I entered the classroom, the interview with owner Michael Lebowitz was in regards to what sets their studio apart from everyone else and their innovative approach.  For starters their office is composed of different teams that are able to engage and collaborate in real time because they sit together.  Each team consists of designers in different specialties, such as coders, pre-rendered 3D, flash anime, motion graphics among others to compile each unique team. They do not accept clients or employees that they feel are not a good fit.  For instance if an intern is working throughout their studies and they feel they may be a good fit, they would bring them on board considering their willing.  As far as clients go they won't accept a job if they feel something is off or they wouldn't be able to produce the quality of work they expect. It seems as though they specialize in ...
